Scent of a Woman Review

Scent of a Woman is about Charles Simms (Chris O’Donnell), a Boston prep school senior, and the Thanksgiving weekend he spends working as the aide and companion of Lt. Colonel Frank Slade (Al Pacino), an embittered, lonely, blind veteran. The job, which begins as an onerous task performed principally for money, becomes a tour of self-discovery when Slade decides to make an unexpected visit to New York City. There, amidst all the holiday hoopla, the lieutenant’s actions force Charlie into making an emotionally painful - and potentially physically dangerous - decision.

There are certain actors that, when they appear in a film, are almost invariably indicators that the production is of high quality. They are an elite few, with names like Nicholson, Hoffman, Hackman, and Pacino. Considering some of the roles that Al Pacino has played during his celebrated career (in The Godfather trilogy, for example), it would be hyperbole to say that he gives the “performance of a lifetime” in Scent of a Woman…or would it? For two hours, he brings Frank Slade to life in a way that few others in Hollywood could. As portrayed by Pacino, there’s far more to this man that a rancorous outlook on life and a couple of hearty “hoo-ha”s. (more…)

l have watch roman holiday two times ,l had to admit that l like it very much
it is a delightful, captivating fairy-tale romance shot entirely on location in Rome, and produced /directed by one of Hollywood’s most skillful, distinguished, professional and eminent directors - William Wyler.

The film’s bittersweet story is a charming romantic-comedy, a kind of Cinderella tale in reverse (with an April-October romance).
A runaway princess (Hepburn) rebels against her royal obligations and escapes the insulated confines of her royal prison to find a ‘Prince Charming’ commoner - an American reporter (Peck) covering the royal tour in Rome. (more…)

The 21st Tokyo International Film Festival

The Tokyo International Film Festival kicked off yesterday with an
environmental theme and stars including American actress Julianne Moore
and Hong Kong actor Tony Leung Chiu-wai walking a “green” carpet made
of recycled plastic bottles. Japanese-Taiwanese heartthrob Takeshi
Kaneshiro, popular Japanese actor Satoshi Tsumabuki and film director
John Woo waved at fans during the opening ceremony at Tokyo’s glitzy
Roppongi Hills, one of the two main venues for the festival. (more…)

The film Painted Skin has raked in more than RMB100m in box office revenues within 6 days after its debut on September 26, It is the 4th domestic film to make 100m in 2008, second only to Red Cliff, which made that sum in 4 days
My sister Sally is back from the fat farm again having lost 20 pounds there. But by the way she eats, I’m sure she’ll gain it back and be back on the fat farm next year.
