星期一, 06月 30th, 2008

waaaho..it’s n0342. When I got up today and walked by the window, a gust of wind full of hot air poured into the house.
Summer’s coming! I told myself. It is likely that the temperature will rise and never fall down in next few weeks. So I miss the good time to go out to play basketball.

Today is July the 1st, when the summer holiday really begin. So I should do sth which means to it, too.
What should I do then? (more…)

Get Smart and Anne Hathaway’s photo

星期一, 06月 30th, 2008

I like Anne Hathaway and her movie Get Smart! Let’s see some details:

The life of the young Jane Austen is the inspiration for this romance starring Anne Hathaway
Much like Miss Potter, Becoming Jane examines the life of one of Britain’s best-loved female authors. But if this film to be believed, Jane Austen’s life had a much more direct influence on her work. This semi-speculative biographical drama sees sharp young Jane (Hathaway) pen poetry to recite at parties - that is, until dashing young lawyer Thomas Lefroy (McAvoy) strides in and starts sniggering
Like Austen’s ‘Pride And Prejudice’ character Mr Darcy, Lefroy is arrogant but attractive, and so the scene is set for a will-they-won’t-they love/hate romance. As Lefroy and Jane’s paths cross at local functions, they enjoy much sparkling banter, in which he tries to introduce her to such scandalous literature as ‘Tom Jones’. While there’s a sense that some of Jane’s rebellious touches are wishful modern interpretations, her prim reaction to Lefroy’s choice of reading does at least ring true. (more…)

Aspiring reporter Kit Kittredge can’t resist bringing home strays, whether it’s Grace, an abandoned basset hound, or Will and Countee, a pair of young hobos willing to trade work for meals. Bright, inquisitive and generous, Kit is a natural born leader. But her happy childhood is abruptly interrupted when her father loses his car dealership and must leave Cincinnati to look for work. Kit and her mother Margaret are left to manage on their own, growing vegetables, selling eggs and even taking in an assortment of boarders including an itinerant magician, a vivacious dance instructor on the prowl for a husband and a zany mobile librarian. When a crime spree sweeps Cincinnati, all signs point to the local “hobo jungle,” where Will and Countee live with a group of their impoverished companions. (more…)

The Importance of Play for children

星期五, 06月 27th, 2008

For children, play is naturally enjoyable. And since it is their active engagement in things that interest them, play should be child-led, or at least child-inspired, for it to remain relevant and meaningful to them. Children at play are happily lost in themselves; they are in their own realm of wonder, exploration, and adventure, pulling parents in at times with a frequent “Let’s play, mom!” as an open invitation into that world.

As early as infancy, children immerse themselves in play activities with the purpose of making sense of the world around them. Play gives children the opportunity to learn and experience things themselves, which is vital for their development. Although peek-a-boo games seem pointless to adults, tots are awed by the surprise that awaits them as they see the suddenly emerging faces of people they love. (more…)

China trip in Chengdu

星期三, 06月 25th, 2008

Seated in the campus bus, listening to Jane’s propaganda song for Chengdu—-I love the city, I was heading for the downtown of the city. It’s been quite a long time, approximately 2 months, since last time I went downtown and it’s the first time since the earthquake rocked the city.

“I love the city…I know you are the rainbow of my heart.” To feel the aura of the city with my own independent footsteps into the city is a distinct experience at any rate for me myself for it’s the first time for me as far as I can remember. To get lost, and then to find my way, to stroll in small paths and to swing in the malls, I was being a rambler in the city.
