The Treatments of Stress
Posted by Yuka as Hot Cities
“Oh, my god, I must be late!” I didn’t hear the clock Alarm. I got nervous that my heart jumped very fast while I was going to work. After I arrived at the workplace, my boss reprimanded me for being late. I worried about it and started breathing shallow. I didn’t focus on my work so I didn’t do well for the customer service. A customer was being rude and insulting to me. I felt upset, angry, and tight in stomach. After work, my manager still blamed me about my customer service. I felt stressful and had a slight headache and stomachache. Then I went to night school to study, I had totally forgotten the assignment which needed to be handed in. I felt guilty about on it and I couldn’t sleep well at night. Day by day, I still worry my work and study and felt very stressful but I still didn’t do them well. I know I got stressed, but how could I remove it? Some people say a little stress can be very useful because it raises you to go up. You will be more effective or concentrate on when you perform. But some people say over stress will be harmful for your body. It will be likely to cause sleep problem, fatigue, irritability and poor concentration. However, stress could happen any time at any place and we can not avoid it completely in life. I was realized that stress was really affecting my life. In my opinion, we should treat stress first by following the three of most effective “3R” steps: resetting your schedule, relaxing your body and refreshing your mind.
The first step of stress treatment is resetting your schedule. Setting a schedule is very important for stress prevention. Unfortunately, even if you are right on the schedule, you will never know what might happen next. Something happens and it is not what you are expecting, and then stress will come up at you. If so, you should treat with the stress at first by resetting the schedule and goals. Take a deep breath and find out how to solve the problems, then don’t delay to reset your schedule since you had so many demands or tasks in the same hour. Don’t be nervous, anxious or procrastinating and just do it now. After you reset your schedule, you will clarify what the most important thing to do first is and what you should do next. Then you would be more effectively focused on the goal. Resetting the schedule immediately is a treatment skill that will help you save time by doing things without worry or frustration, frequent lateness, or constant rushing in life. It will promote your productivity, energy, and motivation. Even if you have a good habit of preventing stress during work and study, stress is the factor that can happen to people anytime at anyplace. Therefore, resetting your schedule is the most important skill to treat with your stress.
The second step of stress treatment is relaxing your body. Some people do things very seriously, but not effectively because they worry so much that they are less concentration. Therefore, treating your body to be relaxed is your second step to release the stress. First of all, get enough sleep. Less sleep will make you feel tired and you won’t be concentrated and productive during the day. It will also reduce your body’s immunities and then get sick easily, so set your schedule for seven to eight hours sleep. Sleep is not only for preventing stress but also for treating with stress. For example, if you are late for work and get into trouble at work frequently, just set the time and take your time to sleep well until you feel better in your body before going to work. You should sleep well that will help you save enough energy for your work on the next whole day. Otherwise, you will not have enough energy to think and clarify your schedule and be too tired to look for fun. Even though you have made your schedule, you will find it hard to get your goal. Second, take a rest when you feel a headache or tight in your stomach and less able to breathe or sleepy. You should learn how to relax during the break time. For example, after the class, take a ten minute break and leave the class room, and drink some water and chat with your friend. Take five minute to close your eyes and listen to favorite song when you feel sleepy. Take a deep breath when you feel nervous before a test. When you sit too long and feel your shoulder or back is sore, you might get some exercise or take a warm bath before you go to the bed. At last, don’t work so hard and find time to have fun or do your favorite activity. Take off a week for a trip; Watch comedy films with your friend or take excise or play ball games at the park as well. If you feel uncomfortable and not able to release it at once, you will be stress. Relaxing your body will help you to less stress in a short time so that you will easily find out the ways to solve the problem and release the stress.
The third step of stress treatment is refreshing your mind. Stress comes from your mind, so we should refresh it and earn a well-being mind so that will manage the stress. But some people take medication to treat stress by using the anti- anxiety pill. However, “Anti-anxiety drugs such as diazepam (eg Valium) aren’t suitable for treating stress. They won’t help you learn to cope better with the stresses you face, just make you less aware of them. You may also become dependent on this type of drug” (Bupa 2007).When you are so stressed that you get sick and feel hurt in you body, you should take medication immediately. But that is not the way to release the stress. Refreshing the mind or thinking positive is the best medication to treat with stress. “Stress results not from events in our lives but from the way we think about those events” (Ellis 337). When we get in trouble because of carelessness or feel threaten and feel unhappy or stressful because we always set ourselves up for stress. Once you get stress, don’t be afraid of the trouble and tell yourself: “It will be all right.” Old people always tell to the kids: “If you keep thinking about negative things, the negative things will come true.” So we need to refresh the mind and find out the problems, and then solve it as soon as possible. Don’t let the negative things overcome your mind. “When you expect success and say “I can”, you fill yourself with confidence and joy. Fill your mind with light, hope and feelings of strength, and soon your life will reflect these qualities” (Sasson 2008). Life is filled with stress; over stress will cause sickness or involve more trouble. It depends on how we treat it. When we are under stress, we should think positively and try to read some simple inspiring books or hang out with people who think positively. They will help your refresh your mind and make your think positively. Once your mind gets refreshing, you will feel free like getting rid of the stone on your head and shoulder. And you will be less stress and less sickness.
In conclusion, stress happens anytime in any place when we are living. If we want to be less stressed in our lives, it is all depend on how you treat it. Once we get stressed, we should know the treatments of Stress. “Resetting your schedule”, “relaxing your body and refreshing you mind” is “3R” steps that I found out after I got sick from stress. We could take medicine to treat the sickness, but we should solve the problem and treat stress first, otherwise, stress will be back. When we know how to treat and prevent the stress, and cut it down to the lowest level, we will be able to solve financial, work, study, and life problems. Therefore, we should learn the treatments of the stress for our lives.
