Film Enchanted directed by Kevin Lima

These days, I have watched the film Enchanted directed by Kevin Lima. The greatest feature of the film is the combination of the reality and fairy tales. The film is shooted through animation and real scene. Giselle, Robert(Giselle’s true love), Prince Edward, and Queen Marissa(the witch ) are the leading roles.
Enchanted tells a story about true love’s kiss. The heroine, Giselle, makes an acquaintance with Prince Edward through her beautiful voice and then they are going to marry. Unfortunately , Queen Marissa , Prince Edward’s step mother spares no effort to prevent the marriage. Naturally, Giselle is pushed into the enchanted abyss by Queen Marissa. Surprisingly, Giselle is thrust into New York ,a city that people think of as without true and romantic love.

At the same time, Prince Edward comes to find Giselle, and the plot is almost the same as the hackneyed and stereotyped fairy tales. To our surprise, in the real world, Giselle learns the emotion of real people such as angry. There ,she meets Robert, a divorced man with a little girl. The fact that his wife discards him and his daughter makes him think that the world is inexorable and no one can live happily ever after. But Giselle’s naivety makes him believe true love. They fall in love with each other. When the story comes to the high tide, Robert kisses the dead Giselle poisoned by Queen Narissa,and she comes to life. Unluckily , Robert is caught by a beast changed from Queen Marissa. Unexpectedly, the beauty saves the man bravely, which is against the old saying: A hero saves the beauty. Finally, they live happily ever after, in the real world.

Giselle has all the characteristics of a perfect princess, with naive heart, beautiful appearance, melodious voice and ability of communicating with animals. And like all the princess, she is expecting one day she will share the sweet kiss with her true love. What’s more ,she is very lucky. Giselle is the reflections of Snow White, Cinderella and Little Mermaid. But the plot is against what is described in fairy tales. She doesn’t marry the prince, but with divorced Robert. She doesn’t wear the high heel shoe at last, but Nancy, a women who was in love with Robert before, does. And surprisingly, Prince Edward marries Nancy. The whole film gives the audience the atmosphere of relax ,surprise, humor, romance and so on.

The story also shows the great difference between real world and fairy tales. In the fairy tales, the people are very simple and naive. On the contrary, the people in the real world are complex and dubious. When Giselle comes to New York, she feels unassisted and what she wants is just that someone says hello to her kindly. In the street, she meets an old man, and she is very kind to him, but he is bad to Giselle. As she says, “Nobody has been nice to me. ” No one is kind to her until she meets Robert coincidently. Robert says “Yeah, well, welcome to New York.” The word makes her full of happiness. Giselle even does not know the emotion of angry. That Robert never tells fairy tales stories to his daughter also shows the real world’s people’s complexity.

Giselle’s naivety tells us that we should believe things will come true, and actually the impossibilities are mostly imagined by ourselves. With the naive heart, we can live more happily.
