Poetry Life
Posted by Yuka as Hot Cities
If life is a book, my life should be poems—since fictions are full of imagination, prose is usually natural as water flowing down, and novels show more drama. Only poems are best to describe my life which is characterized by simplicity, meaningfulness, and romance.
My life is simple because I spend most of my time studying. I enjoy learning a variety of knowledge. When I feel tired, I choose reading poems such as Tang dynasty poetry, or Song dynasty poetry. My love for those poems exceeds anyone’s expectation. My father is a great teacher, and he teaches students literature, especially poetry. When I was a little girl, he always made me recite lots of poems even though I couldn’t understand them. He said poetry was the priceless treasure given by our ancestors. As time passed by, I gradually understood those poems. Then when I read them again and again while sipping tea from a cup, I feel the poems just like the taste of tea, mellow forever. Sometimes when I read poems about losing homelands or separating from lovers, I can’t help weeping. My father can write poems. He was a director of the poetry league when he studied in university. He is a superhero in my heart, and I admire him; however, I never told him my thought. I want to thank him because he is the first person who made me approach poetry and understand the beauty of it. In addition, I like poetry because it resembles drawing. When I read poems or draw, I forget myself; only the pictures exist in my mind. A famous poet once said, “Drawing hides poems. Poems display drawing.”
My life is also meaningful. In my spare time, I help my foreign teacher make cards weekly, then sell them and use the money to donate to orphans in Henan. Also I teach Chinese to a foreigner. On weekends, I like to practice yoga with my friends in the Sias gym. Besides these activities, I know my goal; every step is toward my dream without hesitation. I won’t lose myself before other people, no matter what they say, what they do. They are just an important part of my life, but not the full part. Thus, I needn’t hide myself before anyone. I get a dream; I get to protect it, period. Fictions and novels are usually rich in changes. Prose is always long, and only poems are short and leave space for people to guess, taste, and imagine. My life is like poems, with words unwritten for the imagination to select.
My life, finally, is romantic. This kind of romance doesn’t come from a boyfriend. I don’t have a lover. My romance is produced by myself, my soft heart. I know how to enjoy sunrise, cool breezes, and little rain; I share my secrets with warm sunshine; I post my sadness to clouds; I understand the language of the foundation sleeping in Italian Square; I know when “Miss Foundation” wakes up in the morning; I use my silent smile to greet strangers; I say goodnight to my Journal; I can smell the taste of seasons’ shifts; I believe life will be better and better.
I love my poetry life. Hopefully, I will be the most interesting poem for someone or just for myself. Anyway, let me continue to better myself and enjoy the poetry life.
