Sense and Sensibility

It became dull to be aware of that all love stories had a same happy ending with marrige of handsome boys and beautiful girls,and know that in the past the only thing that people cared was money.

People of sense are different from those of sensibility in appearance but remain the same in their heart! I suppose that is the reason why the book was named-Sense and Sensibility.

Henry was the first man mentioned in the story.He inherited a large sum of money from his mother and through marriage as well.By his first wife Mr Henry had one son,John;by his present wife,three daughters.Elinor,the eldest daughter who was always sensible.Marianne was generous,clever and sensitive,and her feelings were too strong to control!Margaret was the youngest.

Because Henry only left them ten thousand pounds,just before his death he sent for his son,and begged him to take care of his stepmother and sisters.His son Mr Jonh promised to do everything he could to make his father’s family comfortable,but he didn’t!

Mrs John had two brothers-Edward and Robert.Their mother Mrs Ferrars was very strict and wanted Edward to be a lawyer,but Edward was not ambitious at all.When he was young he made mistake that he had engaged Miss Steeles before he was sure that he loved Elinor deeply,and he was also so sensible that he had to keep his promise and accept his mistake even though that would make him poor.But Miss steel was not honest to love and could not stand the poor life.So she broke the engagement to Edward and married his brother Robert.That led to the happy ending of marriage of Edward and Elinor !

Not long after Mr Henry died,Mrs Dashwood was forced to leave Norland Park with three daughter to a cottage in Devonshire,kindly offered by Sir John Middleton,a gentleman who was a distant relation of her.

Barton Park was about half a mile from the cottage.It was a large and handsome house,where the Middletons lived in great comfort.Mr Middleton was so sociable that Barton Park was always full of guests.Mrs Jennings,his mother-in-law,was a cheerful woman who talked a great deal.Colonel Brandon,an absolute old bachelor who was on the wrong side of 35,was silent and serious.He loved Marianne at the first sight and was always loved her even though he knew that she did not have any affection to him because of his age!

One day Marianne went out for a walk with Margret and climbed to the top of a mountain to enjoy the beautiful sight of blue sky.Unfortunately they encountered a heavey rain on their way home and Marianne broke her ankle as she ran down the hill.Willoughby,a handsome young man who was hunting outside,saved her.

They fell in love with each other soon afterwards,but the whole family especially Marianne never thought she would be deserted by Willoughby,who had deserted another girl Eliza.In fact Willoughby really concidered Marianne as the best girl in the world,but he needed money and had a lot of debt to pay,so he married another girl with a large inheritance !

After all the suffering,Marianne accepted Colonel Brandon and they got married at last
