Lovely Rooftop Gardens

Posted by Yuka as World

Yesterday Toronto reporter showed off a rooftop garden where nice floweres and fresh vegetables were grown. The building that hosted this ‘rooftop garden’ project was located in downtown Toronto, one of the busiest place of the city.

To build a garden on the top of a building within a busy city is not a new concept anymore. Many cities, such as Tokyo, Osaka, Singapore, Chicago, New York and Vancouver, where space and air pollution is always a problem, rooftop gardens provide one of the best solution to ease up the stress to the environment.

There are many benefits to having a rooftop garden:
1. Reduce CO2 and produce Oxygen, which we all need.
2. Take away excess rainwater which may lead to floods and/or damage building structure.
3. Provide habitats for birds and other wild animals.
4. Provide a park/farm for city residences to relax and enjoy.
5. A source of organic food supply.

Other than just growing a few plants, there are many rooftop gardens with good architectural design. One can take a walk alone, or with a loved one, and spend a leisure, and romantic evening, especially after such a long stressful work day:

Has your city build any rooftop gardens yet? How would you design your own rooftop garden?
