China trip in Chengdu

Posted by Yuka as World

Seated in the campus bus, listening to Jane’s propaganda song for Chengdu—-I love the city, I was heading for the downtown of the city. It’s been quite a long time, approximately 2 months, since last time I went downtown and it’s the first time since the earthquake rocked the city.

“I love the city…I know you are the rainbow of my heart.” To feel the aura of the city with my own independent footsteps into the city is a distinct experience at any rate for me myself for it’s the first time for me as far as I can remember. To get lost, and then to find my way, to stroll in small paths and to swing in the malls, I was being a rambler in the city.

Jinli Folk Street, the historical preserved treasure is a pride of Chengdu. Today it was the second time for me to go there, the first time with some of my friends from my hometown. It became quite tranquil today in comparison with the Golden week of the National Day. This time I went there for the gift to my bro. I bought some traditional souvenirs—two masks of Sichuan Opera for him.

When I passed by the street, scattered with some Tibetan shops, the scene of Tibetan Turbulence in March came through in my mind.

Then I went to the Excellent Foreign language Bookstore for look around, encountering two American women, or say, girls. I intended to look for the prestigious bookstore bookworm which was referred to by one of my foreign teacher before and where many English books lie there. The most bravo part came along with the way I look for the store. I encountered two American women, Carla and Grace, who I thought might know where the bookstore was and I asked for the direction. I conversed a lot and she brought me to the western restaurant Peter’s for a free magazine which contained plenty of information for Chengdu’s places. Carla was living in Xining, Qinghai Province and she visited Chengdu after the May’s earthquake for hope to help the relief work. With her help, I got to the Bookworm. It was indeed a fantastic place where people can read, eat, drink and chat. Many foreigners in Chengdu are the keen guests there.

After the staying in Bookworm, I went for Wangjiang Campus to gather with Jessie and back to Jiang’an Campus. By the way, we had a very agreeable and free talk in the bus, which shortened the suffering time in the bus.

Plus, Chengdu is indeed a city which once you come to and are never willing to leave, as it is advertised. It is like a beauty who you will strengthen your love for her as long as you embrace it and feel it and get to know it more profound.

I love the city , the way it smiles.
