In Flashdance (1983), the birth date filled out in the application form is her actual birth date in real life. Best actress:Jennifer Beals also fills in her father’s full name on the application, as well as her mother’s first name. In the film The Anniversary Party (2001), Beals plays a character who takes photographs of performers which she then gives away, usually to the subjects of the photos. Beals actually does this. Is a close friend of Quentin Tarantino’s. Quentin often stayed at Beals’s home while struggling as an aspiring director before Pulp Fiction was made. They appear together in Four Rooms.
While at Yale, she was classmates with David Duchovny, who suggested her for a part on The X Files (1993) (which went to Gillian Anderson). She was the babysitter for Steve Edwards (formerly of Entertainment Tonight). In 1985, while promoting “The Bride”, Steve Edwards had a syndicated special that featured Beals and Liza Minnelli. He and Jennifer
spoke about her babysitting his children and how he was proud of her, bringing her to tears. Nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Comedy/Musical at Golden Globe Awards for FLASHDANCE (1984) Was offered the part eventually played by Apollonia, but turned the role down because the movie clashed with her schedule at Yale. Jennifer studied welding for two months for her role as the welder/dancer in the mover ‘Flashdance’. Jennifer is good friends with Elizabeth Berkley, they both appeared together in the movie ‘Roger Dodger’ (2002). She won the NAACP Image Award for Best Actress (Flashdance) She auditioned for the miniseries “Queen” (Alex Haley’s grandmother) but the role went to Halle Berry. Although Adrian Lyne selected her to play Alex Owens in Flashdance, Paramount Studios didn’t want her because of her race. (Adrian Lyne in Details Magazine, 1996). She wanted to go to Yale ever since her older brother, Greg, went there (he studied African American Studies). Jennifer has stated that theonly racism she has ever faced is from people who think she is white (August 1985, Cosmopiltan Magazine). The night before auditioning for Flashdance, she slept on a bench in Central Park.
